Royals Opening Day

Karson and I headed to KC for the Royals Opening Day and a weekend of fun. I got to meet one of his brothers, several of his friends and his grandma.  He also got to meet more of my friends. All in all it was a pretty fun weekend. It was only the second major league baseball game that I'd ever been to, so going to opening day was pretty cool. The weather was a bit chilly and rainy.  We did most of our "tailgating" indoors at a bar in the Plaza area.  Karson took a lot of photos, here's some highlights.
Karson and I at 810Zone Restaurant (it's not even noon)

Karson's brother and his girlfriend. Karson and myself.

Gates BBQ, I had a Burnt End sandwich. It was pretty tasty. I did NOT need the french fries we got.

Heading into the K
We had seats in the upper deck on the 3rd base side, we opted to go stand with some people in the outfield area in the 6 or 7th inning. I look REAL sober here.

At some hole in the wall bar, after this we headed back to the Plaza for a bit and then off to pass out for the night.

Trip to Ames

Karson and I made a trip to Ames this past weekend to catch some Hilton Magic.  We'd originally been planning to go on February 19th for the ISU- Mizzou game, but that didn't work out.  Since we would have been cheering for opposite teams that day, I'm okay with that not working out.

After arriving in Ames on Saturday and buying tickets, the cashier directed us around the corner, where we ran into the Knops heading upstairs.  We stopped to talk to them for a few minutes before heading to our seats.  We did a lap around the arena got some snacks and found our seats, which were decent considering we walked up and bought them that day.  Karson spotted someone in a argyle sweater that he liked.  He's been telling me for almost a month that he plans to wear overalls when we attend VEISHEA.  This can be attributed to bad fashion choices in 1997 and 1998, he's convinced that everyone at ISU must wear overalls.  (HA HA!)  I told him the sweater would be a better option.  The game against Nebraska ended up in an overtime win, and he even bought me a Clone cone!

Once the game was over we made our way to the Memorial Union to hit up the bookstore - he wanted to find that sweater and check out the UnderArmor gear.  While we wear there, we ran into more people. Erin, Andy and Katie were there along with some people I tailgate with.  None of these run ins were planned so it was random and fun.  The sweater wasn't at the bookstore, and they didn't have UA gear in his size, so we headed off on a cold, walking tour of campus.

Then of course....Great Plains. YUM!!!  We followed that up with some relaxing in our hotel hot tub.

Sunday morning we met up with my sister, brother-in-law, their kids and my aunt at the Machine Shed.  Someone may have pointed out the staff was wearing overalls.  After being stuffed with the breakfast buffet, we headed off to check out the DaVinci exhibit at the Science Center. Absoulutely fantastic.

Oh and the sweater was found at the Hy-Vee on Fleur.  One of my friends told me she'd seen it there.  Karson didn't want to drop $45 on it.  Now he's wishing he'd bought it. :) Number of ISU things Karson already owns: 3.  Number of Mizzou/Arkansas things I own: 0.  Pretty sure I'm winning the conversion.

Moving Right Along

So since starting the 30 Day Shred, I've made decent progress so far.  I'm down 4.5 pounds in less in about 10 days.  I'm pretty happy with those results.  I signed up for Jillian Michaels website for 30 days for free.  It suggested that I lose 20 pounds, I decided 15 pounds seemed more reasonable.  So that will be the goal before my trip to Mexico in May. I've got loads of time to get that accomplished.

What to do?

I've been racking my brain for awhile trying to figure out what to get Karson for Valentine's Day.  He's been needing a new wallet for awhile, but I realized a couple days ago, that his current wallet has a seperate ID holder thing that he keeps his military ID so that he can flash it. I'm sure that wouldn't be too hard to find, but I didn't like any of the wallets I was finding.

So then what?  For Christmas this year, my sister made me a no sew fleece blanket.  Karson really liked it when first saw it.  He'd never seen one before.  They weren't really all that popular when we were growing up, then he moved south for college, since then he's been living in warmer climates when not overseas. I started to wonder if it would disappear from my house.
I decided a fleece blanket of his own would be a great gift.  So I set off in search off fabric.  Hoping that by some miracle I could find either of his two college teams of choice - Missouri or Arkansas.  Fat chance, here in the land of the Huskers. I managed to come across the Cyclones (yay) and the Hawkeyes (boo), even Texas A&M, Florida and Auburn, but that was about the extent of non-Husker related options. :(  Thankfully, he also has pro-teams.  I opted for the Chiefs over the Royals.  Edited to include the finished project.

All Because of a Dress

Last Sunday, (1/23), K called to tell me he'd made reservations for Valentine's Day on the 11th.  He'll be out of town for work from February 13-25 in Texas. Since he gets to fly out early on Sunday morning, Friday night seemed logical.  K was also sweet enough earlier that day to ask if there was anywhere in town that I'd been wanting to try.  We play the, "Places in Town to Check Out" game frequently - mostly because he's only lived here since late spring 2010.  I threw out the name of steak place that I've always wanted to try.  I didn't logically put it together that he'd make reservations there, I can be a bit clueless at times.

So last night I went to try on the dress that I planned to wear in 11 days - it fits, but it doesn't exactly look superfabulous.  EEEK.  So I've got two options. Buy a new dress OR workout and lose a couple pounds/tone up a bit.  More so on the toning up.  At this time, I'm opting for the second option.  Obviously, the brownies that I made today will be a wonderful help toward the goal.  Bring on the 30 Day Shred!  I signed up for a trial of Jillian Michael's website too.
